John Powell is an accomplished senior executive with 30 years of experience leading teams at companies offering technology solutions that enable clients to collaborate, communicate and/or connect more effectively. He is currently the General Manager for the Western United States for Verrex, an international audiovisual (AV) systems integrator that designs, installs, and supports AV and UC&C solutions for large enterprises, higher education institutions and government entities.
John has a history of turning around underperforming or stagnant organizations by developing world-class teams and identifying ways to improve customer experience, having successfully restored double-digit growth and profitability at divisions of Infonet Services Corporation (acquired by BT), Equant (now Orange Business Services), Virtela Technology Services (acquired by NTT), and AVI-SPL. In addition to being Vice President of Global Channels at Virtela, he was also the company’s interim co-President and CEO for two years; helping the company become cash flow positive for the first time and a pioneer in cloud security and software-defined networking.
John has also been an entrepreneur, having co-founded a publication that competed with Rolling Stone Magazine in the 80s, an international wholesale packetized (VoFR and VoIP) voice company in the 90s, and a real estate marketing software company five years ago. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and a MBA from Pepperdine University.
