Medical DirectorCigna HealthA graduate of the University of California, Irvine, and the Creighton University School of Medicine, Dr. Wascher completed an internship in Surgery at Letterman Army Medical Center and residency training in Surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC). He then served as a staff surgeon, the founding director of the hospital’s cancer program, and Chief of General Surgery at Darnall Army Hospital. Following a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, Dr. Wascher returned to TAMC as the Chief of Surgical Oncology, while serving on the academic faculty at the University of Hawaii’s Cancer Research Center and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
Following a 30-year career in the US Army, Dr. Wascher retired from active military service in 2006, and became the founding director of the Division of Surgical Oncology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, while serving on the faculty at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Prior to joining Cigna as a Medical Director in 2017, Dr. Wascher served as a Surgical Oncologist, Chief of Surgical Oncology, Chief of Surgery at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Phoenix, as well as the founding director of the first comprehensive breast program to be accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers in Arizona. During this time, he also joined the faculty at the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine, where he currently remains a Clinical Professor of Surgery. Dr. Wascher has authored many clinical papers in peer-reviewed publications, and is the author of “A Cancer Prevention Guide for the Human Race” (2010), an evidence-based cancer prevention book for lay readers. A songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist, in his free time, he enjoys composing and recording music in his studio, among other hobbies and interests. |
